Hampoeil Cave of Maraqeh

Hampoeil Cave of Maraqeh

Hampoeil or Kabootar Cave is located in a foothill 15 km far from southeast of Maraqeh. It is 1600 meter higher from Mordichay River. The cave entrance width is about 8 meter and its height is 25 to 40 meters. The length and width of the cave’s first square are about 40 and 60 respectively. There is an inscription at the beginning of the cave which is written in Russia and belonged to 1925.
The importance of this cave is because of its deep and horrible holes which are like a big rocky furnace and huge hallways. This cave is much more interesting for mountaineers, researchers, speleologists who come each year to visit.
By entering the cave there would be a big area which has two big holes in its ceiling. There is a tight hallway in the northeast of the first square which is the entry of cave’s second square. There are four ways in the second square, two of them ended in the first square, one of them ended in the cave and the other is a tight hallway ended in another place in the southeast of the cave.
There are four deep holes in the north and northeast of the second square. The cave had been changed each year. The most significant change in the first and second square is a pile of ashes which rise to visitor’s ankle or knee sometimes. There are two aquifers in different holes of the cave, one of them had been destroyed because of wall downfalls but the other one has water and its sound is heard from above. Calcic sediments and stalactites made an interesting view around walls, holes and ceiling’s second square. The weather of the cave is so moist but near the end of the cave in third and fourth holes, there is not enough oxygen. Reaching the cave’s holes is not possible without suitable equipment like light, rope, protective equipment, portable oxygen cylinder, and map. This cave is not managed or exploited now.
